Feminist film has become the focus for much creative and critical work as women filmmakers have sought ways to represent experiences that had not previously been part of the filmic or cultural conversation. This course examines the work of women directors and the representation of women in their works. Central concerns of the course include the relation between women cinema and gender film studies; the connection of film form to the representation or expression of identity and desire; and a greater understanding of the influence of psychoanalysis on female film work.
