This elective is an introductory course designed for students with no or limited prior training in translation to develop their interests in the dynamics of literary translation. The course will begin with an introduction to Translation Studies and an overview of the basic translation theories. Fundamental techniques commonly practiced in translation will be introduced through lectures and in-class exercises. There will be three major assignments; the second and the third assignments will be the works-in-progress toward the student’s final translation project. We will work up from sentences to paragraphs, and the final project will be one short story chosen from the course on Introduction to Fiction.
