老人、身障者、窮人等人口數持續增加，都有各種需求，政府過去的做法偏重給予現金(in-cash)，近年來給予差異化的服務(in-kind)愈來愈重要，相關的方案也愈來愈多。社會工作者在這些方案的規劃、執行與評估中，扮演重要角色。社會工作研究所學歷者更被寄望能成為相關方案的靈魂人物，如何透過方案幫助老人、身心障礙者及貧困者，進而藉著方案幫助這些案主及他們的家庭，是社會工作研究生應該多加了解的。
許多學生在校園裡對社工方案有所學習進而設計，但實際執行者少之又少。因此，keep your hands dirty(把你的手搞髒)，實際去做，實際從頭到尾參與方案，更為可貴。講授者長期規劃、執行各種社會工作方案，也接受政府對這些方案的評鑑。深刻體會不能僅從個案管理的角度去看去做，更應強化方案管理。
社會工作背景者的社會學乃至社會科學的訓練不夠，過度聚焦於案主、案家，忽略了整體人口數的狀況及變化，未能掌握老年人口、身障人口、貧困人口的全貌及所產生的問題。講授者長期研究社會問題，以嚴謹的社會科學背景分析這三種人口群的特性、變化及對社會工作者的挑戰。
過去的社工訓練容易產生穀倉效應，服務某種人口群就只注意該人口群，忽略不同人口群的交集，例如老人與身障者、身障者與貧困者。講授者近年來致力於跨群體的服務，累積許多經驗，也藉此規劃並執行一些創新方案。
因此，實踐、社會學視野、跨人口群等是本課程的特色。

The population of the elderly, the disabled, and the poor continues to increase, and they all have various needs. In the past, the government focused on providing cash (in-cash). In recent years, providing differentiated services (in-kind) has become more and more important, and there are more and more related programs. Social workers play an important role in the planning, implementation and evaluation of these programmes. Those with a graduate degree from the Institute of Social Work are also expected to become the soul of relevant programs. How to help the elderly, the physically and mentally handicapped, and the poor through programs, and then help these clients and their families through programs, is something that social work graduate students should know more about.
Many students learn about social work programs on campus and then design them, but very few actually implement them. Therefore, it is more valuable to keep your hands dirty, actually do it, and actually participate in the plan from beginning to end. Lecturers plan and implement various social work programs over a long period of time, and also accept government evaluation of these programs. I deeply understand that we cannot just look at it from the perspective of case management, but also strengthen program management.
Those with a social work background have insufficient training in sociology and even social sciences. They focus too much on clients and clients, ignore the status and changes of the overall population, and fail to grasp the full picture of the elderly, disabled, and poor populations and the problems they cause. The lecturer has been studying social issues for a long time and uses a rigorous social science background to analyze the characteristics, changes and challenges for social workers of these three population groups.
In the past, social work training was prone to a barn effect. When serving a certain population group, we only focused on that population group and ignored the intersection of different population groups, such as the elderly and the disabled, and the disabled and the poor. In recent years, lecturers have devoted themselves to cross-group services and accumulated a lot of experience, which has also enabled them to plan and implement some innovative programs.
Therefore, practice, sociological perspectives, cross-population groups, etc. are features of this course.
