課程主要教學目標，在使學生對台灣各宗教的發展及其與社會文化互動的關係有系統性的認識，經由歷史脈絡觀察宗教的發展，與社會文化的關係，使學生瞭解宗教在台灣社會扮演的角色與變遷過程，從而幫助學生研究宗教與台灣社會互動的多元面向。
本課程的教學目標有以下數點：
1.使同學能夠認識並研究台灣基督宗教、民間宗教、佛教、新興宗教等歷史的發展及其變遷。
2.使同學能夠比較並思考台灣不同宗教文化的多元差異，進而從歷史高度看待宗教之發展。
3.使同學能夠從理論的觀點，嘗試思考各宗教與社會的關係，及其調適、交流、衝突的現象。
4.使同學能夠具有田野調查的能力與方法，進而對台灣宗教現象作自我的觀察。The main teaching objectives of the course are to enable students to systematically understand the development of various religions in Taiwan and their relationship with social culture. Through historical perspectives, students can understand the role and change process of religion in Taiwan society, and thus help students study the diverse aspects of religion’s interaction with Taiwan society.
The teaching objectives of this course are as follows:
1. Enable students to understand and study the development and changes of Taiwan's history such as Christian religion, folk religion, Buddhism, and New Religion.
2. Enable students to compare and think about the diverse differences in different religious cultures in Taiwan, and then look at the development of religion from a historical perspective.
3. Enable students to try to think about the relationship between religions and society and their phenomena of adaptability, communication and conflict from theoretical perspectives.
4. Enable students to have the ability and methods of field surveys, and then make self-observation of Taiwan’s religious phenomena.
