徐復觀是新儒家大師，以古代思想史和文學的研究聞名於世。在其1955年至1969年任教於東海大學期間，曾出版兩部影響力極大的鉅作—《中國人性論史先秦篇》（1963）與《中國藝術精神》（1966）。其中《中國藝術精神》一書，橫跨思想、文學、藝術三大領域，對學人有莫大的啟發，已入當代學術經典之林。在這個課程內，我們將先簡介徐復觀的生平及學術成就，以及當代關於徐復觀的研究概況。復次，我們將以徐復觀《中國藝術精神》一書為對象，探討徐復觀寫作本書的因緣、關懷，並分項研討其主題內容。同時，本課程亦擬配合東海圖書館館藏的徐復觀手稿資料，探討其研治此問題，以及是書的成形過程。最後，我們會試圖將徐復觀的《中國藝術精神》寫作，置於近當代學術中，特別是思想史、藝術理論的討論脈絡下觀察，進而思考該書及其相關手稿，為當代留下的思想遺產，以及可發展的學術議題。本課程的主要有三個學習目標：第一，修畢本課程後，能對徐復觀《中國藝術精神》的關懷、內容、成書過程與學術意義，有清楚的瞭解。第二，能以徐復觀《中國藝術精神》為基礎，增進相關專業知識，且拓展研究視野。第三，能以本課程單元主題為對象，發掘可行議題，獨立完成本課程主題研究的能力。

Xu Fuguan is a neo-Confucian master who is world-famous for his research on ancient intellectual history and literature. While he taught at Tunghai University from 1955 to 1969, he published two highly influential masterpieces - "The History of Chinese Human Nature in Pre-Qin Dynasty" (1963) and "The Spirit of Chinese Art" (1966). Among them, the book "The Spirit of Chinese Art" spans the three major fields of thought, literature and art. It has greatly inspired scholars and has become a contemporary academic classic. In this course, we will first introduce Xu Fuguan’s life and academic achievements, as well as an overview of contemporary research on Xu Fuguan. Next time, we will take Xu Fuguan's "Chinese Art Spirit" as the object, explore the causes and concerns of Xu Fuguan's writing of this book, and discuss its themes and contents in detail. At the same time, this course also plans to use the Xu Fuguan manuscript materials collected in the Donghai Library to explore his research and treatment of this issue, as well as the formation process of the book. Finally, we will try to place Xu Fuguan's writing of "The Spirit of Chinese Art" in the context of modern and contemporary academic discussions, especially the history of thought and art theory, and then think about the intellectual legacy left by this book and its related manuscripts for the contemporary era, as well as the academic issues that can be developed. This course has three main learning objectives: First, after completing this course, you will have a clear understanding of the care, content, writing process and academic significance of Xu Fuguan's "The Spirit of Chinese Art". Second, based on Xu Fuguan's "The Spirit of Chinese Art", we can enhance relevant professional knowledge and expand our research horizons. Third, the ability to use the subject of this course unit as the object, explore feasible issues, and independently complete research on the subject of this course.
