搞清楚所謂「鄉土社會」這個概念，就可以幫助我們去理解具體的中國社會。本課程閱讀的指定用書全面的展現了中國基層社會的面貌，而「這裡講的鄉土中國，並不是具體的中國社會的描繪，而是包含在具體的中國基層傳統社會裡的一種特具的體系，支配著生活的各個方面」。本課程將透過該書中簡潔的語言，對中國基層社會的主要特徵進行概述和分析，包括鄉村社區、文化傳遞、家族制度、道德觀念、權力結構、社會規範、社會變遷等。當中涉及中國社會的傳統結構與中國國民性格，對當今社會人與人、群體與群體之間如何相處，仍有諸多可借鑒之處。Understanding the concept of "country society" can help us understand the specific Chinese society. The designated books read in this course comprehensively show the face of China's basic society, and "the country China discussed here is not a description of the specific Chinese society, but a unique system contained in the specific Chinese basic society, which governs all aspects of life." This course will provide an overview and analysis of the main characteristics of China's basic society through the simple language in the book, including village communities, cultural heritage, family system, moral concepts, power structure, social regulations, social change, etc. There are still many ways to borrow the traditional structure of Chinese society and the character of Chinese people in today's society.
