✤Be able to explain and apply key concepts in cultural and ecological anthropology. Students will be introduced to basic anthropological concepts including culture and social change and to provide students with a more holistic appreciation of human diversity. At the end of the course, students will be able to use participant observation and anthropological theories towards future work and projects.
✤Conduct cross-cultural analysis. Students will develop critical thinking skills by using cross-cultural analysis to understand human behavior in different cultures. This will allow students to develop a broader understanding of humanity.
✤Develop a holistic and relativistic point of view. Anthropologists pay special care to have a holistic and culturally relativistic point of view when approaching culture. Students will be able to consider all aspects of a culture and understand their meanings within an objective and nonjudgemental lens. Students will also be able to identify and eliminate their own ethnocentric biases.
✤Gain an appreciation of the diversity and similarities shared between cultures. Students will leave the course with a better appreciation for the diversity of human life. Students will be able to examine their own culture critically and contextualize world views and belief systems.
