都市如何定義？人口、機能、歷史等因素都是界定都市的考量因子， Lawton(1989)更直接點出：「都市就是文明。」做為一個文明的呈現，都市是一個多變的有機體，會有新生，也會有衰頹。需要有系統的進行規劃及管理才能正向的活化內部的活動，這也是都市規劃存在最重要的理由。
聯合國預測：都市人口已將超越非都市人口，以都市做為空間主體的模式正在形成，這除了代表megacity, global city的趨勢正轉化全世界的產業結構外，也反應都市規劃的涵構正面臨外在環境衝擊下的轉變需求。
因此，從連結空間規劃與設計的角度，本課程將會從整個規劃領域基礎到轉變的過程加以介紹，提供相關的元素，並做為未來從事規劃工作的基礎。

How to define the city? Factors such as population, function, history, etc. are all considerations for defining cities. Lawton (1989) points out directly: "The city is civilization." As a presentation of a civilization, the city is a multi-change organic body, which will have rebirth and decline. Systematic planning and management are required to positively activate internal activities, which is also the most important reason for the existence of urban planning.
United Nations forecast: The urban population will surpass the non-urban population, and the model of using the urban as the space main body is taking shape. In addition to representing the trend of megacity and global city, this also reflects the transformation needs of urban planning directly under the impact of external environmental impacts.
Therefore, from the perspective of connecting space planning and design, this course will introduce the process from the entire planning field to the transformation, providing relevant elements and serving as the basis for future planning work.

「都市」，是一種狀態、一種社會/產業/人文的再現(representation)嗎？那麼，「都市計畫」，又是什麼？為什麼都市需要規劃？都市規劃在作哪些事情？和建築設計又有哪些關係？……

Is "city" a representation of a state, a society/industry/humanity? So, what is "urban plan"? Why do cities need planning? What are the urban planning doing? What is the relationship with architecture design? ...
