教育目標 Course Target

「如何理解台灣脈絡下的移民及移工文化?」90年代開始,政府開始引進東南亞藍領移工,同時來自大陸與東南亞配偶的人數也逐漸增加,他們的身分與處境逐漸成為社會的焦點,其人權也開始受到關注。近十多年來,關於配偶移民與移工的劇情片、紀錄片、甚至文學創作(尤其是報導文學與自傳類的書寫)也逐漸出現。但是,一般大眾對於移民與移工的認識,仍多停留在新聞媒體報導的刻板印象。文化研究的分析,正好提供了一條路徑,從關於移民工的書寫,探索在台灣的移民與移工的文化再現與意義。同時,不同於英語世界常見第三世界、前殖民地或從威權專制政體逃離的離散或流亡經驗,或回不去的鄉愁,這些移民/工的經驗更是被資本主義的推力推動。透過他們的視角,可以提供多元的角度,反思新自由主義全球化下當代台灣的處境與主體性。

本課程主要分為兩部分進行。第一個部分是相關的文化理論,主要介紹民族國家、底層的政治、再現政治。該部分藉由對民族國家與資本主義的批判、後殖民論述對於民族國家與底層發聲的思考,與學生一起思索如何看待移民工的發聲位置。

第二個部分則是台灣的移民工文學與文化作品,分為移民、移工、無國籍者,並特別以香港的討論為參照,每個部分都會介紹相關研究與文學或紀錄片,並請來賓演講。最後,本課程以顧玉玲《回家》,針對自我與他者的關係與書寫進行討論。

課程評量作業的設計中,除課堂報告與討論之外,期末報告採開放式的設計,請學生分組撰寫研究或觀察反思報告,報告內容除研究的形式以外,也可以進行文字或影像的創作。

本課程的目的,主要是向同學介紹台灣的移民/工議題與文化及文學創作,帶領學生進行社會文化的反思,並培養同學基本的分析能力,了解作品與社會文化的關聯。

"How to understand immigration and migrant worker culture in the context of Taiwan?" Since the 1990s, the government began to introduce blue-collar migrant workers from Southeast Asia. At the same time, the number of spouses from mainland China and Southeast Asia has gradually increased. Their identities and situations have gradually become the focus of society, and their human rights have also begun to receive attention. In the past decade or so, feature films, documentaries, and even literary creations (especially reportage and autobiography) about spouse immigration and migrant workers have gradually appeared. However, the general public's understanding of immigrants and migrant workers is still limited to the stereotypes reported by the news media. The analysis of cultural studies provides a way to explore the cultural representation and significance of immigrants and migrant workers in Taiwan from writing about migrant workers. At the same time, unlike the diaspora or exile experience common in the English-speaking world in the Third World, former colonies, or those escaping from authoritarian dictatorships, or the nostalgia of being unable to return, the experience of these immigrants/workers is driven by the thrust of capitalism. Through their perspectives, we can provide multiple perspectives to reflect on the situation and subjectivity of contemporary Taiwan under neoliberal globalization.

This course is mainly divided into two parts. The first part is related cultural theory, which mainly introduces nation-states, underlying politics, and representational politics. This part uses the critique of nation-states and capitalism and postcolonial discourse to think about nation-states and the voices of the subaltern, and together with students think about how to view the voice of migrant workers.

The second part is Taiwan’s migrant literature and cultural works, divided into immigrants, migrant workers, and stateless people, with special reference to discussions in Hong Kong. Each part will introduce relevant research and literature or documentaries, and invite guest speakers. Finally, this course uses Gu Yuling's "Going Home" to discuss the relationship and writing between the self and the other.

In the design of the course evaluation assignments, in addition to classroom reports and discussions, the final report adopts an open-ended design. Students are asked to write research or observation reflection reports in groups. In addition to the form of research, the report content can also be composed of text or images.

The purpose of this course is mainly to introduce Taiwan’s immigration/labor issues, culture and literary creation to students, lead students to reflect on social culture, and cultivate students’ basic analytical skills to understand the connection between works and social culture.
