Public Service Internships I
Course Target
In order to help students in this department understand the practice of public services as early as possible, our department has been considering launching an undergraduate internship program for a long time. Based on the design of this course, it is expected that after evaluating the relevant implementation results and student needs, a decision will be made as soon as possible whether to officially change the administrative internship to a required course, or to provide other courses (such as special topics) as an option. The design of this course continues the "Volunteer Management and Public Service" elective course that has been piloted for about six years. It is now renamed "Administrative Internship I and II" and the number of credits has been reduced to 2 credits each in the upper and lower semesters. It has become an exclusive elective course for junior and senior students and will be continued. The design of the above-mentioned semester courses is centered on the verification of "student learning effectiveness." We hope to provide diversified assistance so that junior and senior students can take stock of what they have learned, then choose an internship field and topic, combine their strengths with a group of friends, and sprint out a blue ocean project for their employment resume.
As for "Administrative Internship (I)", this year there will be at least a series of "Crowd Fundraising" workshops (expected to be carried out in five weeks), one off-campus visit (tentative), and five keynote speeches as the axis (those who elect this course will not accumulate learning experience points for participating in the above speeches), supplemented by "Public Service" courses and international case analysis. The speeches can be roughly divided into three categories, namely "Understanding Careers, Potential Development, Policy Topics" and other series. In order, they hope to expand the career development imagination of fresh people in society (what are the opportunities for graduates of this department?), understand and exercise the value recognition and preparation for public services (integration of work and charity), and help everyone review or restructure their employment skills (employment sprint preparation).
In addition, part of the course time will explore public service-related theories, management practices, and current important issues. We will also start to compile the "learning resume and professional interests" of each course-selecting student, with the purpose of preparing for the group program internship of "Administrative Internship (II)". Because in the second half of this semester, the teacher will start to match the project internship opportunities provided by each group of the class with government agencies and non-governmental organizations, so that the students who choose the course can go to the internship organization in person in the first week of the next semester to start completing the projects they selected last semester. The contents of these plans are expected to include "crowd fundraising plan practice, activity planning or execution (for example: plan writing), news reporting or analysis (for example: big data analysis), organizational outreach or marketing (for example: micro-advertising shooting), business inventory or innovation (for example: maker thinking), new media application and innovation (for example: Youtuber)", diplomatic license application services, district office service business, research and assessment business, etc. Participating in the above-mentioned programs will give you the opportunity to practice your service ideas, or enter different organizations to participate in program execution, and use your practical performance to obtain potential employment opportunities for yourself, or win yourself a competitive internship experience. Of course, in this process, in addition to enriching your pre-internship preparations through the above-mentioned workshops and lectures, this course will also use a multi-person co-op approach in the "Administrative Internship (II)" in the next semester, allowing each team to gradually complete the tasks assigned by the internship organization with the assistance of the instructor/mentor.
