本課程係以課堂講授進行教學，冀使學生初步掌握民法概念，能夠認識我國民法體系並正確認知、使用法律用語。
使學生能夠正確使用我國民法重要實定法用語，並能初步分析簡單民事紛爭之法律關係。

民法在於解決私法糾紛，即與公權力之運作無關。
人民之日常生活，無不與民法息息相關。諸如買到凶宅、泡水車；學生租賃房屋，房東不是所有權人。本課程在於使同學如何成立一個合法的法律關係，避免日後語意不清，徒增困擾。例如當事人資格，各種法律關係之要件，法律之立法精神。建立基本法律之邏輯觀念，破除以訛傳訛之訊息。同學有了民法基礎，對於其他之法律如商事法、消費者保護法，當可舉一而反三。民法要思考、要累積，非一日可成。同學不可心存僥倖之心，臨陣磨槍，不亮也不光。
