This course aims to explore the development of Western dramas, as well as representative performance forms and well-known creations.
There are three goals for this course:
Instruct students to deeply understand the connection between various Western performance forms.
Develop students' awareness and research dimensions of problematics in Western dramas.
Lead students to analyze the artistic nature and aesthetic foundation of Western dramas.
The first period of this course is based on Oriental dramas as the main content, introducing the origin, development and changes of Chinese dramas, as well as drama works and drama expression forms of different periods. I hope to lay a foundation for students' knowledge through outlines of drama history. On the one hand, I can understand the characteristics of dramas in various periods, or I may accumulate and touch the energy and spirit of future creation in the process of viewing and dialogue.
The first half of the course is taught with classical dramas, from the original appearance of the primary drama to how contemporary dramas are combined with contemporary drama aesthetics. The song is a comprehensive performance across the realm. Its biggest feature lies in the combination of poems, songs and dances, and is based on lyricism; in addition to expressing emotions, it emphasizes the expression of emotions and thus arouses the audience's sharing. In addition, the unique performance system of the song (such as: Shengdan, Qingmiao, Chou, Ming, Chou), the artistic expression techniques (such as: one table and two chairs), and the rich style of combining various performance art (singing, playing music, science, etc.) are all its moving characteristics and connotations. This course will lead students to understand the unique aesthetic connotation of Chinese drama, as well as the different drama forms and performance contents exhibited according to historical changes.
In the second half of the course, we enter the discussion of modern dramas, and will go from modern dramas that were influenced by Western thoughts in the early 20th century to various drama performances with flowers and flowers in the contemporary drama scene in Taiwan. In addition to outlining the occurrence and evolution of modern dramas, the course content in this part focuses on the diverse appearance of contemporary dramas under the stimulation and influence of various contemporary conditions. With the combed history of drama, the reading and discussion of scripts, the observation and analysis of drama environment, all these tours will eventually move towards the actual creation and evaluation of dramas; we hope that the process of traveling back and forth between dramas and drama texts can gain some rewards and enrichment in different dramas, and transform it into the source of performance and creation.
