Advanced Design Research On Future Cities

教育目標 Course Target

This special elective seeks to analyze and critically apply determination of Anthropocene responding to alternative ways of architecture/city design based on new knowledge in describing the momentous shifts in Earth’s operating systems.
The elective has the following objectives:
1. Familiarize relational problems associated with homo sapiens, nature and urban design.
2. Identify existing human-caused problems associated with cities.
3. Integrate and devise appropriate ways for evaluation on tenets of Anthropocene design.
4. Create fundamental Anthropocene design principles and elements to rectify current problems.
5. Innovate Anthropocene design strategies to prepare for future impacts of cities.
Contents
This elective emphasis the humanity’s potent role as a planet-scale force that cast environmental influence by our significant activities that altering climate, land-scapes, air-scapes and sea-scapes. All flows of species, life form, elements of material, energy, etc. are in cyclical symbiosis that requires fundamental rethinking of all current stages and methods of urban designing process.
The module will investigate definition and theory for Anthropocene design, and to find out how cities respond to, continue from, deviate from conducive conditions for living organisms to thrive and prosper. The core of the contents will be given to rethink and help shape what designers’ role can be under the arguments of Anthropocence operating as scientific agreement and political statement.
