由於棲地破壞,生物種類大量減少,人類已面臨生物資源大量流失的問題。保育生物學講述保育的倫理、保育的理論基礎和方法,生態系經營的目標任務,物種、種群、生育地之決策變數的調查評估,並進行保育策略之釐定、經營計劃之擬定、與決策規劃執行,監測評估資源經營保育決策的成果與調適,以使選習者具備正確的自然資源經營保育知識與技能,俾使同學能具備生態系永續經營保育的觀念,同時也能有身體力行的技術。
保育生物學具有二大特色,也因此而有別於其他科學,是一門危機處理科學。因為它關係到物種立即的威脅和絕滅,所以時間很迫切,需立即採取行動。其次,保育生物學是綜合性、整體性的科學,涵蓋很多領域及理論,包括生物整合資源調查、地理資訊系統、島嶼生物地理學、遺傳學、生態學、區塊動態學(patch dynamics)、空間生態學、氣象學、土壤學、能量物質循環以及生態評估(ecological assessment)、危險評估(hazard evaluation)、生態系經營學等。保育生物學就是:發展一套適當的科學原則並應用這些原則以改進技術,達到維持生物多樣性的目的(Tangley, 1988)。
本課程提供已修習過生態學及生物多樣性相關課程學生進一步的專業課程,結合理論與應用並配合國內有關保育實例之講授。Due to the stalemate destruction and the reduction of biological species, humans have faced the problem of large-scale loss of biological resources. Conservation biology has two major characteristics, and is therefore different from other sciences. It is a crisis science. Because it relates to immediate threats and destruction of the species, time is urgent and action is needed immediately. Secondly, conservation biology is a comprehensive and holistic science that covers many fields and theories, including biointegrated resource surveys, geographical information systems, island biogeography, transportation, ecology, patch dynamics, space ecology, atmosphere, soil, energy and material circulation, as well as ecological assessment, hazard evaluation, ecological system operation, etc. Conservation biology is to develop an appropriate scientific principle and apply these principles to improve technology to achieve the purpose of maintaining biological diversity (Tangley, 1988).
This course provides further professional courses for students who have studied biological and biological diversity-related courses, and provide reasonable discussions and applications and in conjunction with domestic teaching on conservation practices.
