Conservation Biology

教育目標 Course Target

由於棲地破壞,生物種類大量減少,人類已面臨生物資源大量流失的問題。保育生物學講述保育的倫理、保育的理論基礎和方法,生態系經營的目標任務,物種、種群、生育地之決策變數的調查評估,並進行保育策略之釐定、經營計劃之擬定、與決策規劃執行,監測評估資源經營保育決策的成果與調適,以使選習者具備正確的自然資源經營保育知識與技能,俾使同學能具備生態系永續經營保育的觀念,同時也能有身體力行的技術。
保育生物學具有二大特色,也因此而有別於其他科學,是一門危機處理科學。因為它關係到物種立即的威脅和絕滅,所以時間很迫切,需立即採取行動。其次,保育生物學是綜合性、整體性的科學,涵蓋很多領域及理論,包括生物整合資源調查、地理資訊系統、島嶼生物地理學、遺傳學、生態學、區塊動態學(patch dynamics)、空間生態學、氣象學、土壤學、能量物質循環以及生態評估(ecological assessment)、危險評估(hazard evaluation)、生態系經營學等。保育生物學就是:發展一套適當的科學原則並應用這些原則以改進技術,達到維持生物多樣性的目的(Tangley, 1988)。
本課程提供已修習過生態學及生物多樣性相關課程學生進一步的專業課程,結合理論與應用並配合國內有關保育實例之講授。

Due to the destruction of habitats and the massive reduction of biological species, humans are already facing the problem of massive loss of biological resources. Conservation biology describes the ethics of conservation, the theoretical basis and methods of conservation, the goals and tasks of ecosystem management, the investigation and evaluation of decision-making variables for species, populations, and breeding sites, and the determination of conservation strategies, the formulation of management plans, and decision-making planning. Implement, monitor and evaluate the results and adjustments of resource management and conservation decisions, so that candidates have correct knowledge and skills in natural resource management and conservation, so that students can have the concept of sustainable management and conservation of the ecosystem, and also have the skills to practice it.
Conservation biology has two major characteristics, which make it different from other sciences. It is a science of crisis management. Because it involves immediate threat and extinction of species, time is of the essence and action needs to be taken immediately. Secondly, conservation biology is a comprehensive and holistic science that covers many fields and theories, including biological integrated resource survey, geographical information system, island biogeography, genetics, ecology, patch dynamics, spatial ecology, meteorology, soil science, energy and material cycle, ecological assessment, hazard evaluation, ecological system management, etc. Conservation biology is about developing an appropriate set of scientific principles and applying these principles to improve technology and achieve the purpose of maintaining biological diversity (Tangley, 1988).
This course provides further professional courses for students who have studied ecology and biodiversity-related courses, combining theory and application with teaching on domestic conservation examples.
