家庭社會工作就是以家庭為對象所從事的社會工作，對家庭各成員的需求和問題提供幫助。當個人的家庭角色執行困難，或是家人關係有問題，導致家庭功能無法發揮，就需要家庭社工。凡是採取社會工作方法或理論，以家庭整體為核心所提供的各項家庭服務，都可稱為家庭社會工作。
由於各種因素，使家庭功能無法繼續維持正常的運作，以致可能傷害兒童人身安全、就養和就學權益，亦可能威脅其他家庭成員；家庭功能因著面臨突發事件、家庭成員本身或家庭內、外在及社會環境的阻礙與困難，這些障礙使家庭無法因應這些家庭問題，陷入「多重壓力」或「多重需要」。政府近年推動「強化社會安全網」計畫，希望能協助各種在困境中的家庭，社會工作者是第一線的服務推動者。
家庭社會工作本身是獨立的學科，又是其他與直接服務有關課程，如兒童與青少年社會工作、婦女與社會會工作、老人與社會工作、社會救助等的基礎。
課程主要內涵有三，第一是「奠定家庭服務的能力」，強調基本功夫。依序說明家庭圖、家庭環境圖、家庭理論、家庭訪視、家庭空間、家庭評估、法令、服務輸送。第二是「透過113業務幫助家庭」，重點是家庭及婚姻暴力、兒童虐待及高風險、性侵害、亂倫及老人虐待，接著說明處遇，從社工、諮商治療、教育社會等方面著力。第三是「透過經濟與司法幫助家庭」，經濟面有守有攻，濟貧如同防守，脫貧彷彿進攻，包括協助就業、理財脫貧、信託保障等。司法面也有守有攻，家事事件法及家事調解偏重防守。寄養、安置、出養、收養，則主動改變家庭及孩子。
上課方式：每次的第一節，以分享為主，廣泛取材，例如以重要人物的家族圖分析、近來社會事件或政府政策、某個劇情片或紀錄片、某本新書或經典著作。第二節，講授課本的進度。第三節，先介紹我執行過及近年政府推動與家庭有關的社會工作方案，然後講課本進度。
Family social work is social work that takes the family as the object of it, providing assistance to the needs and problems of various family members. When individuals have difficulty performing family roles, or family relationships are in trouble, resulting in the inability to detect family functions, family social workers are needed. All family services provided by adopting social work methods or theories and focusing on the whole family can be called family social work.
Due to various factors, family function cannot continue to maintain normal operation, which may harm the personal safety, care and education of the child, and may also threaten other family members; family function is due to emergencies, obstacles and difficulties of the family members themselves or the family’s internal, external and social environment. These obstacles make the family unable to fall into “multiple pressure” or “multiple needs” due to these family problems. In recent years, the government has promoted the "Strengthening Social Security Network" project, hoping to help all kinds of families in trouble. Social workers are the first-line service promoters.
Family social work itself is an independent subject and is the foundation of other courses related to direct service, such as social work for children and teenagers, women and social work, elderly and social work, social assistance, etc.
There are three main contents of the course. The first is "building the ability to serve family" and strengthening basic skills. Describe family pictures, family environment pictures, family theory, family visits, family spaces, family evaluations, laws, and service delivery in sequence. The second is "helping families through 113 businesses", which focuses on family and marital violence, child abuse and high risk, sexual assault, assault and elderly abuse. Then we will explain the experience, focusing on social workers, consulting and treatment, education and society. The third is to "help families through economy and justice", economics are both defensive and offensive, economics are like defense, and offensive, which is like attacking, including assisting in employment, financial management, trust guarantee, etc. The judicial side also has both defense and offense, and the family event law and family affairs adjustment focus on defense. Deliver, place, feed and collect, and actively change the family and children.
Method of attending classes: The first session of each time is mainly about sharing and is widely used, such as family diagram analysis of important people, recent social events or government policies, a certain drama or record, a new book or classic work. The second chapter talks about the progress of the course. In the third chapter, we will first introduce the social work plan that has been implemented and the government has promoted and related to families in recent years, and then talk about the progress of the coursework.
隨著時代快速變遷，家庭的樣態多元且複雜，家庭社會工作是針對多樣化家庭的生態進行系統動力的瞭解，針對家庭所面臨的諸多困境，採取專業系統評估與多元化的綜融處遇。由於社工所面臨的家庭處境常是邊緣與複雜的，如何以合適的價值、態度與倫理偕同弱勢家庭或系統網絡間合作，並秉持以家庭為中心、社區為基礎的接軌當今的社會福利體制，以有效的因應相關難題，均是本課程將探討的重點。
As the times change rapidly, the family's environment is diverse and complex. Family social work is a systematic understanding of the ecological environment of diverse families, a comprehensive understanding of the many difficulties faced by the family, and a comprehensive experience of professional system evaluation and diversification. Since the family situation faced by social workers is often side by side and complex, how to cooperate with weak families or system networks with appropriate value, attitude and ethics, and uphold the current social welfare system with family-centered and community-based connections, and to respond to relevant difficult issues with effective reasons are the key points to be explored in this course.
