社會福利行政的任務正在快速變遷之中，單單是民國一百年以後的幾年，就有全然不同的面貌。在法規方面，自從性侵害犯罪防治法和家庭暴力防治法通過後，保護服務成為重點，加上兒童少年權益保障法的修正，性侵、家暴、兒虐等所謂的113業務需聘用大量社會工作人力，卻始終人力不足。身心障礙權益保障法的修正、ICF新制的推動，身心障礙公約的上路等，也大幅增加身心障礙福利的人力。老人福利隨著高齡社會的正式到來，各項福利服務需求殷切，政府也積極因應。在社會救助領域，法令及作法傳統的貧民調查及現金濟助都改變了，各種脫貧措施愈來愈受到重視。
在經費方面，社會福利預算占中央政府各項總支出已經高居第一位，達到百分之二十三以上，佔各地方政府的預算也多在百分之十五上下。愈來愈龐大的經費要使用，也造成社會福利行政人員的壓力。
在與民間組織的互動方面也有了新形勢，政府龐大的福利經費必須與民間組織齊心推動，落實對弱勢團體的服務。但是民間組織可能各有立場，有些團體的負責人應邀擔任部會局處的委員，甚至成為民意代表，監督行政部門。社會局處得小心維持適當關係。學者專家、媒體記者乃至有需求的民眾及家屬，都是社會福利行政者必須互動的。

The tasks of social welfare administration are changing rapidly. In just a few years after the 100th anniversary of the Republic of China, it had a completely different look. In terms of laws and regulations, since the passage of the Sexual Assault Crime Prevention Law and the Domestic Violence Prevention Law, protective services have become the focus. Coupled with the amendment of the Law on the Protection of Rights and Interests of Children and Adolescents, so-called 113 businesses such as sexual assault, domestic violence, and child abuse require a large number of social work manpower, but there is always a shortage of manpower. The amendment of the Law on the Protection of Rights and Interests of People with Disabilities, the promotion of the new ICF system, and the launch of the Convention on People with Disabilities have also significantly increased the manpower for welfare for people with disabilities. Welfare for the Elderly With the official arrival of an aging society, there is a strong demand for various welfare services, and the government is actively responding. In the field of social assistance, laws and practices such as traditional poverty surveys and cash assistance have changed, and various poverty alleviation measures have received increasing attention.
In terms of funding, the social welfare budget ranks first in the central government's total expenditures, accounting for more than 23%, and accounts for about 15% of the budgets of local governments. The increasing amount of funds to be spent has also put pressure on social welfare administrators.
There is also a new situation in interaction with civil society organizations. The government's huge welfare funds must be promoted jointly with civil organizations to implement services for disadvantaged groups. However, civil organizations may have different positions. The leaders of some groups are invited to serve as committee members of ministries and bureaus, and even become public opinion representatives to supervise administrative departments. The social bureau must be careful to maintain appropriate relationships. Scholars, experts, media reporters, and even people in need and their families are all people with whom social welfare administrators must interact.
