Course Description
Cultural Studies is an elective course that aims to introduce students to the growing field of study involving aspects of contemporary culture and its influences across the globe. Students will engage with topics related to culture in three ways. First, the understanding of culture in terms of the world and how space and place defines us. Second, we will look at social structures and how it influences marginalized groups. Finally, we will explore how people enjoy and make use of various forms of culture and the varying needs they fulfill in our everyday lives.
Course Objectives:
By the end of the course students should be able to:
• Understand the broad field of Cultural Studies and the varying areas of study it entails.
• Use the correct taught terminology when commenting and identifying assorted aspects of Cultural Studies.
• Have a basic working knowledge of the major movements in western culture and politics.
• Understand how culture influences the world and themselves.

There is no textbook for this course. A course packet will be provided at the beginning of the semester and worksheets and terminology lists will be uploaded onto Moodle throughout the semester.
