Zen Thoughts

教育目標 Course Target

本課程之目的在於讓學生廣泛接觸禪宗文獻,培養整合禪宗史料、閱讀並理解禪宗典籍之能力。課程主要分為五個部分:一、透過《壇經》選讀了解慧能禪法的特質,奠定日後閱讀禪宗文獻的基礎。二、透過各種《燈錄》之紀載,了解洪州禪如何繼續發展慧能禪法,並開創出獨特一格的祖師禪禪風。三、藉由《碧巖錄》之選讀,增加學生對宋代文字禪的理解能力,並能理解唐、宋禪法的變化。四、閱讀大慧宗杲之《語錄》,瞭解他對文字禪、默照禪之批判,並熟悉宋代以降看話禪之特色與修行方式。透過閱讀與分析,培養學生領會禪宗公案之精神,不再因公案之閱讀門檻高而棄之不顧、視為畏途。

The purpose of this course is to provide students with extensive exposure to Zen literature, and to cultivate the ability to integrate Zen historical materials, read and understand Zen classics. The course is mainly divided into five parts: 1. Understand the characteristics of Huineng's Zen method through selected readings of the "Tan Sutra" and lay the foundation for future reading of Zen literature. 2. Through various records in "Leng Lu", understand how Hongzhou Zen continued to develop the Huineng Zen method and created the unique style of Patriarch Zen. 3. Through the selected reading of "Bi Yan Lu", students can increase their understanding of the Zen text in the Song Dynasty and understand the changes in Zen methods in the Tang and Song Dynasties. 4. Read Dahui Zonggao's "Quotations" to understand his criticism of written Zen and silent Zen, and become familiar with the characteristics and practice methods of Kanyan Zen since the Song Dynasty. Through reading and analysis, students can be trained to understand the spirit of Zen koan, and they will no longer abandon koan because of its high reading threshold and regard it as a daunting path.
