佛教來自於印度，早期佛教經典大量使用譬喻、寓言、神話、故事，創造豐富的敘事作品，透過故事的宣說，讓聽眾逐步了解佛陀的生平事蹟、佛教基本的教義、儀軌、戒律和隱藏其中的印度文化。後期大乘佛教與傳入漢地的漢傳佛教，也繼承此一傳統，將佛教文化傳播到整個東亞世界。本課程大略區分為佛陀生平、本生故事、外護諸王、出家僧眾、漢地流行故事幾個類別，引導學生了解著名佛典故事的來龍去脈，並以此為媒介來介紹與佛教相關的歷史或傳說人物、佛經的翻譯與分類、佛教哲學的重要概念以及傳入漢地後的佛教文化。學生在本課程中，當能較廣泛的涉獵與佛教文化相關的文獻，熟悉佛典的語言和敘事模式，建立基本的佛教知識基礎，有助於未來認識漢文化在哪些方面受印度與佛教文化的影響。Buddhism comes from India. Early Buddhist classics used a lot of metaphors, fables, myths, and stories to create rich works of events. Through the pronunciation of stories, listeners can gradually understand the Buddha's life, basic Buddhist doctrines, dictates, precepts and Indian culture hidden in it. Later Mahayana Buddhism and Han Buddhism, which were passed into Han, also inherited this tradition and spread Buddhist culture to the entire East Asian world. This course is roughly divided into several categories: the life of the Buddha, the story of the original life, the outer life of the king, the monks, and the popular stories of Han, which guides students to understand the famous Buddhist stories, and uses this as a medium to introduce the history or translator of Buddhism related to Buddhism, the translation and classification of Buddha, the important concepts of Buddhist philosophy, and the Buddhist culture after it was transferred to Han. During this course, students can learn a wide range of literature related to Buddhist culture, be familiar with the language and event model of Buddhist scriptures, and establish a basic foundation of Buddhist knowledge, which will help them to understand in the future what aspects of Han culture are influenced by Indian and Buddhist culture.
