美國已故人文主義評論家(作家)路易斯孟福德( Lewis Mumford)曾指出: “城市是人類生活進化的縮影, 也是人類文化發展的表徵”. “城市的文化依其歷史, 技術與藝術的呈現決定它的興衰”依此, 要探討一個城市的特色, 可以從觀察這城市的空間是否能給市民在生活上的愉悅去著手.
本課程從”城市的空間應該契合當地人民的生活與文化”的觀點並以紐約市作為探討案例.藉著紐約市的城市特定空間的探討去思考在面對快速變化的都市環境裡,我們想要過什麼樣的城市生活? 如何看待與重建城市與空間使城市更適合我們的生活與文化.並找回城市的文化與生活本質.
The late American humanistic commentator (writer) Lewis Mumford once pointed out: "City is a reflection of the evolution of human life and a sign of the development of human culture." "The culture of a city determines its decline based on its historical, technological and artistic presentation." According to this, we should explore the characteristics of a city and observe whether the space of the city can give citizens a happy life.
This course takes New York City as a case study from the perspective of "the city space should be in line with the lives and culture of the local people" and takes New York City as an exploration case. Through the exploration of the city-specific space of New York City, thinking about what kind of urban life do we want to live in the face of a rapidly changing urban environment? How do we view and rebuild cities and space to make cities more suitable for our lives and culture, and regain the culture and nature of our lives.
