Independent Study

教育目標 Course Target

1. The Instructor assists the student in formulating a research topic concerning the area the student intends to research.
2. The Instructor assists the student in searching, assessing, summarizing, integrating and synthesizing essential reviews of literature on the chosen topic.
3. The Instructor assists the student in relating current research to prior related research.
4. Regular meeting times will be scheduled for the instructor to monitor the student’s progress.
The Independent Study course allows each student to work on a project of her own interest that may be turned into a research topic for a thesis. Each student will focus on an area that she is interested in and will engage in researching, assessing, summarizing, integrating, and synthesizing essential literature on the chosen topic. Students will meet regularly with the professor in order that their progress be monitored and their projects advised. At regular intervals over the semester students will present progress reports for discussion with other students in the class. At the end of the semester students will develop and write an extended research essay, or have developed a chapter or chapters toward, and an outline for, an MA in Literature thesis.
The goals of the Independent Study are:

3. To assist the student in extending her knowledge of the research topic and the range of analytical, historical, and theoretical approaches which can be utilized in furthering the objectives of the student’s project.
