徐復觀是當代新儒家大師，曾任教於東海大學中文系，以中國思想史的研究聞名於世。在1955年至1969年任教東海大學期間，曾完成兩部影響力極大的鉅作。一部是《中國人性論史先秦篇》，另一部則為《中國藝術精神》。其中《中國藝術精神》一書，橫跨思想、文學、藝術三大領域，對學人有莫大的啟發，已入當代學術經典之林。在這個課程內，我們將先簡介徐復觀的生平及學術成就，以及當代關於徐復觀的研究概況。復次，我們將以徐復觀《中國藝術精神》一書為對象，探討徐復觀寫作本書的因緣、關懷，並分項研討其主題內容。同時，本課程配合東海圖書館館藏的徐復觀手稿資料，探討他研治此學以及是書的成形過程。最後，我們會試圖將徐復觀與他的《中國藝術精神》，置放於近當代學術史關於思想史、藝術理論的討論脈絡裡，進而思考該書及其相關手稿，為當代所留下思想遺產及可發展的學術議題。本課程的主要有三個學習目標：第一，修畢本課程後，能對徐復觀《中國藝術精神》的關懷、內容、成書過程與學術意義，有清楚的瞭解。第二，能以徐復觀《中國藝術精神》為基礎，增進相關專業知識，且拓展研究視野。第三，能以本課程單元主題為對象，發掘可行議題，獨立完成本課程主題研究的能力。

Xu Xieguan is a contemporary Neo-Confucian university. He once taught in the Chinese Department of Donghai University and is famous for his research on Chinese thought history. During his tenure as a teacher at Donghai University from 1955 to 1969, he completed two highly influential works. One is "The Pre-Qin Chapter of the History of Chinese Human Nature" and the other is "The Spirit of Chinese Art". Among them, the book "The Spirit of Chinese Art" spans three major fields of thought, literature and art, and has great enlightenment for students. It has entered the forest of contemporary academic classics. In this course, we will first introduce Xu Xie's life and academic achievements, as well as a contemporary research overview on Xu Xie. For the next time, we will use Xu Huiguan’s book "The Spirit of Chinese Art" as the object to explore the reasons and concerns of Xu Huiguan’s writing of this book, and study its theme content in various aspects. At the same time, this course cooperates with Xu Yao's manuscript information collected by Donghai Bookstore to explore his research on this study and the process of forming the book. Finally, we will place Xu Xiu's "The Spirit of Chinese Art" in the discussion link of modern contemporary academic history on the history of thought and art, and then think about the book and its related manuscripts, leaving behind ideological and developing academic topics for contemporary times. There are three main learning goals in this course: First, after completing this course, you can have a clear understanding of Xu Xie’s concern, content, bookmaking process and academic meaning of “The Spirit of Chinese Art”. Second, we can take Xu Xiu's "Chinese Art Spirit" as the foundation, enhance relevant professional knowledge, and expand research vision. Third, the ability to use the subject of this course as the object, explore feasible topics, and independently complete the research on the subject of this course.
