Course Target

From earth to the table概念牽動對於飲食內涵、文化、食材、食物哩程的探討。 Feeding the Planet.

When the voices of children and the graceful dancing dance sing to each other
When the joy and impassioned excitement of the crops wander back and forth

When will the food struggle end?
How to understand the wailing link between prosperity and desolation?

There is an inexhaustible source of life in agricultural food
Communities and villages can create more beauty that returns to nature

Until it carries every drop of color and inspiration
Let the nourishing life be moved and summoned

Therefore, I heard this and found the brilliant spirit of sharing in the countryside.

If we were given a blank piece of drawing paper and asked to draw up a real and friendly pastoral shared home in our dreams, how would you start?

While some people were still laughing at the homework of elementary school students, Jacqueline Cramer and Glenn Herlihy, after a permaculture course, worked with thousands of volunteers to build the pride of Seattle: the world's first public "Beacon Food Forest." Who said it’s hard to find the shared beauty of countryside in the city?

Looking around the world, Japan’s successful case of nationwide promotion of food education and the concept of From earth to the table in European and American countries have affected the discussion of the connotation, culture, ingredients and food journey of food. At the 2015 World Expo in Milan, Italy, "Feeding the Planet. Energy for Life" focused on people's rights to health, safety and adequate food. Canada holds the first Help Feed A Hungry Planet global youth agriculture summit, which is all about safe food and community participation. Food, climate, environment, food safety and food agriculture education have become common issues in countries around the world. The discussants participating in the discussion are no longer just experts and scholars, but how to integrate them into the creative activities of young people and allow students to construct thinking and seek solutions for the future.

Food farming has been a topic of great concern to everyone in recent years in response to the deterioration of the environment. In order to satisfy consumers who want to buy good-looking food with limited money, farmers use a large amount of pesticides and chemical fertilizers to eliminate insects and shorten the harvest time, so as to grow large and plump food. This move has caused pesticide residues and lesions in consumers' bodies, as well as land pollution and habitat destruction of environmental species. The whirling butterflies no longer dance, the birds and animals inhabit their hearts become smaller, the land becomes a weeping lament, and the city becomes a link between magnificence and desolation. Do you have the courage to realize your ideals as a member of the community, so that the public can understand the relationship between agriculture and food consumption as soon as possible, and put into practice the important issues of food and agriculture education.

When we were young, we bent down to observe every plant and tree, and the joy of imagining every inch was a happy memory we shared in childhood. There is the beauty closest to reality in the fields, the calmness and hope in the natural land, which is an opportunity for children to experience life and be moved. Cultivating university and community children to work together to experience the natural beauty of the countryside and appreciate the aesthetic creation of the group, transform it into the concern of the group through poetic transformation, and extend it into the common glory of the community, is the ideal vision of regaining the touch and value of life - beauty.

Therefore, this course plan hopes to integrate the university's practical courses, cooperate with the university's social responsibility plan and the joint participation of community citizens, call on more students who care for the land and the public to roll up their sleeves and join in, hoping to achieve the ideal state of "free farming and harvest sharing"; and then "enjoy the land and give back to nature", use fallen leaves to fertilize, and the concept of resource recycling to conserve nature. In turn, we will implement environmental education and experiments in a land-friendly manner, and promote the food and agriculture art resident program of community partners. Practice the ideal of social service and learning in urban and rural areas; finally, "Joining the community for beauty, feeling life", through the creation of educational ideals and local materials, setting up exhibitions in the fields and holding creative pastoral art performances. Let smiling eyes see beautiful scenery everywhere.

Course Vision and Philosophy

1. Free farming and harvest sharing
When the area of cultivated land in cities shrinks, many vegetable materials that meet daily nutritional needs are forced to be cultivated in the countryside or borders, and even rely on external imports from international trade. This not only causes the domestic farming population to gradually disappear, but also increases the cost of vegetables. The fragmented public or private land in the city is waiting for plan changes or enclosures to raise land, but it cannot be effectively used. The source of healthy and fresh vegetable food should not be controlled by money, and participation in land should be achieved through co-management and sharing; community sharing parks can participate in farming together, and those who do not know how to grow vegetables can learn from partners; the vegetable garden is not only my food, but also everyone's food. "Free farming and harvest sharing" is the real breakthrough of community barriers, rethinking the trust relationship between people, and regaining the precious value of true trust, mutual help and sharing in memory, which is the core concept in the course.

2. Enjoy the earth and give back to nature
Close to the edge of the development of the Taichung High-tech Corridor, we should uphold the spirit of low-carbon life and adapt to nature, and not aim at mass production of agriculture. Instead, we use natural fallen leaves and dead branches to compost, and return the generated waste to the earth, establish a recycling education mechanism, conserve the land that is close to people, and deeply cultivate the concept of endless energy and resource circulation. This ideal can be further implemented in school education. In addition to allowing students to experience the daily life on the plate, it extends to the most direct natural life education. It also allows community people and children to directly enjoy healthy and organic fruits and vegetables, and deeply reflect on another beautiful scenery in the countryside in urban life.
3. Enjoy the beauty of the crowd and feel life
Beauty is the basic condition for not lacking in life, and it is also the origin of creativity and life. One flower and one grass is creation. The basis of creation and imagination comes from life, and art cannot be separated from life. Lie on your back in the field, observe every inch of your imagination, and experience the satisfaction and fun of a world filled with sand. With the input and participation of students and various talents from the community, we will examine the connections between people and groups in life and repair the social relationships between people. And being able to enjoy the beauty of the crowd re-experiences the endless energy and value in life.
