A presentation is a live performance., done in real time in front of a live audience. To communicate with listeners and engage them, you must be self-aware. While speaking, you must imagine how you look and sound to them.
This course will make you a better presenter through intensive practice. We will do two things. First, to make you more aware of your content as you are presenting it, we will study English rhetoric. Second, to improve your delivery – body language, facial expressions, and voice (e.g., pitch and timing) – we will practice in class, with systematic feedback from teachers and classmates. You will find that content and delivery are intimately related. Only by having a thorough command of your message will you deliver with confidence. Only through effective delivery will you convey your message to the listeners.
