Social Statistics

Course Target

Course introduction: The ultimate goal of social science is to describe and explain different social phenomena, and how to describe and explain different research orientations. However, scheming is one of the most commonly used tools by social scientists to describe and explain research data, and its importance in social science research is unquestionable. Statistical sci- Collect, organize, analyze, and express verification, and make further decisions by confirming hypothesis and suggesting. This course is a junior-level statistical graphic course, which mainly allows students to familiarize themselves with the basic concepts and theoretical discussions of statistical graphic, learn the system package software, and understand the application of statistical graphic in social science research. Learning Suggestions: Generally, students majoring in social sciences seem to be very afraid of statistical studies. The common reasons are: "I don't have a good mathematics" or "I'm counting a lot of mathematical formulas, and I'm confused." In fact, these are all wrong concepts. Statistics are not mathematics, although mathematical formulas are applied to prove or promote some basic concepts. Statistics is a way of thinking that can help us make decisions. When learning statistics, the first secret is to abandon the fear of shrinkage; the second secret is that, like other subjects, learning statistics requires patience and enthusiasm. In addition to thinking with your brain, you also need to calculate it manually. The most important thing is that the concepts and reasoning of disciplines are highly connected, so the most efficient learning strategy is: listen carefully in class, revise immediately on the same day, ask questions at any time if you have any questions, and be sure to master the learning content of each stage. In addition, with the development of computer technology, various statistical packaged software have developed and matured, which has greatly reduced the necessity of intensive calculations and is very helpful for us to learn statistical programs. Given the universality of the stereoscopic software in modern work applications, we will learn a SPSS, a highly popular stereoscopic software in the social sciences field. Through SPSS, students should be able to further their application in social science quantitative research. Teaching objectives: By studying relevant papers and actual calculations after class, students can:  Learn how to collect reliable data on problems  Be familiar with how to organize and analyze data, and make reasonable suggestions or predictions  Improves the ability to think and strengthen understanding and mastery of large numbers/data data  Cultivate social phenomenon observation and experience analysis skills in a sensitive way  Research characteristics of different social academic fields  Cultivate social subject comparison, analysis, and thinking skills
