Introduction to Mahayana Buddhism
教育目標 Course Target
一、課程目標
本課程目標在於提供大乘佛教哲學的基本知識與哲學觀點,分別從歷史發展、哲學發展與文獻研讀方面進行。重點在於養成學生對相關哲學議題的敏銳觀察、興趣與熱情,並從中取得能夠回饋於各種生命情境當中源源不斷的鼓舞與支援。
二、課程內涵
(1)歷史發展部分,希望了解大乘佛教思想如何從印度文化脈絡與小乘佛教思想當中發展生成,以及大乘佛教內部分裂為中觀、唯識乃至於後續演變為兩者之間更為複雜的細緻分化,以及它們分別在藏地與漢地的傳遞。(2)除了掌握大乘佛教有別於其他印度思潮與小乘佛教哲學的特殊觀點之外,能夠區分大乘佛教內部主要哲學歧見,以及其間所涉核心的問題意識,更要從當代意識中去回顧這些這哲學歧見在當代佛教內部與外部溝通之中,以及我們當代生活挑戰之中的意義。(3)文獻研讀方面,我們從龍樹《中論》之中選擇部分篇章,以從原典閱讀中涵養第一手知識,並搭配當代研究分析,觀摩國際學界的研究取徑。
1. Course Objectives
The goal of this course is to provide basic knowledge and philosophical perspectives of Mahayana Buddhist philosophy, from the aspects of historical development, philosophical development and literature study. The focus is to develop students' keen observation, interest and enthusiasm for relevant philosophical issues, and to obtain continuous encouragement and support that can be used in various life situations.
2. Course content
(1) In the historical development part, we hope to understand how Mahayana Buddhism developed from the Indian cultural context and Hinayana Buddhism, as well as the internal division of Mahayana Buddhism into Madhyamaka, Visana only, and even the subsequent evolution into a more complex and detailed differentiation between the two, as well as their transmission in Tibet and Han respectively. (2) In addition to grasping the special viewpoints that distinguish Mahayana Buddhism from other Indian ideological trends and Hinayana Buddhist philosophy, it is also necessary to distinguish the main philosophical differences within Mahayana Buddhism and the awareness of the core issues involved. It is also necessary to review the significance of these philosophical differences in the internal and external communication of contemporary Buddhism and the challenges of our contemporary life from the perspective of contemporary consciousness. (3) In terms of literature study, we selected some chapters from Nagarjuna's "Middle Way" to acquire first-hand knowledge from reading the original text, and combined it with contemporary research analysis to observe the research approaches of the international academic community.
