教學目的：
（一）這門課以有一年以上大學文學訓練，但非主修西洋文學的同學為對象
（二）以歐洲與美國文學為主。約略按歷史發展，選讀難度適中的詩歌與小說
（三）冀望同學能對西方的文學經驗與傳統有具體的認識與了解
主要內容：
（一）文學與文化史簡介：從希臘羅馬到十八世紀
（二）作品精讀：十九世紀浪漫主義以降至二十世紀中葉的代表性作家作品
（小說念中文譯本，詩則英詩以原文為主，其他語言仍讀中譯）
