本課程在介紹廣為公共事務實務參與者與研究者用以從事決策制定及社會科學研究之基本數量方法與原則。社會科學方法的本質在於嘗試從實證資料中以建立通則的方式來了解並預測人為現象;對一般研究者而言,其最感興趣的通則是涉及變項之間的關係,而對於變項間關係之探討則可始自對變項之操作化及量化和分析。本課程即在為學生爾後獨立研究之所需,打下厚實基礎。課程內容包括:一、公共事務量化研究的概要,其提供有關方法學的基本知識,旨在剖析公共事務學科的研究性質、範圍及研究步驟;二、有關資料以及資料蒐集的方法,並包括問卷調查、抽樣技術及資料的處理;三、統計方法之應用於數量資料分析、預測、和因果關係之檢定等方法、以及分析結果之詮釋的探討。This course introduces basic quantitative methods and principles for public affairs practice participants and researchers to formulate decisions and social science research. The essence of social science methods is to try to understand and predict human phenomena by establishing a general rule from the actual data; for ordinary researchers, the most interesting general rule is the relationship between changes, and the exploration of relationships between changes can begin with the operationalization, quantification and analysis of changes. This course lays a solid foundation for students' independent research needs. The course includes: 1. A summary of quantitative research on public affairs, which provides basic knowledge about methodology, aiming to analyze the research nature, scope and research steps of public affairs subjects; 2. Methods related to data and data collection, including questionnaire surveys, sampling techniques and data processing; 3. Application of statistical methods to quantitative data analysis, prediction, and determination of causal relationships, as well as exploration of analysis results.
量化研究方法主要在提供公共行政與公共政策研究所須的各種計量分析工具。透過本課程的學習,希望同學能瞭解應用統計的基本觀念,知道何時與如何進行統計分析,能實際運用統計軟體,並有能力解讀無所不在的統計數字。因此,除去統計理論的研習之外,本課程亦將要求同學 hands-on 實際操作統計軟體 (如SAS或SPSS)。
Quantitative research methods are mainly about providing various quantitative analysis tools required by the Institute of Public Administration and Public Policy. Through the learning of this course, I hope that students can understand the basic concepts of application statistics, know when and how to conduct statistical analysis, can actually use statistical software, and have the ability to understand non-existent statistical numbers. Therefore, in addition to the study of theories, this course will also require students to actually operate the statistical software (such as SAS or SPSS).
