本課程整學期的閱讀文本將以Arnold Hauser (1951) The Social History of Art 一書為深入精讀之主要文本，乃因此書是「藝術社會史」取徑奠基性開山之作，不但空前，也可能絕後。其視角之原創、通史般的上下五千年之博大精深、冷靜客觀的論戰文風和曉暢清晰的語言風格，在在令人讚嘆。
The reading texts throughout this course will be based on the main text of in-depth reading by Arnold Hauser (1951) The Social History of Art. Therefore, the book is the foundational work of "Artistic Social History". It is not only unprecedented, but also possible. The originality of its vision, the profoundness of the five thousand years of history, the quiet and objective style of the verbal style and the clear language style are very impressive.
