本課程整學期的閱讀文本將以Arnold Hauser (1951) The Social History of Art 一書為深入精讀之主要文本，乃因此書是「藝術社會史」取徑奠基性開山之作，不但空前，也可能絕後。其視角之原創、通史般的上下五千年之博大精深、冷靜客觀的論戰文風和曉暢清晰的語言風格，在在令人讚嘆。
The reading text of this course throughout the semester will be Arnold Hauser (1951) The Social History of Art as the main text for in-depth and intensive reading. Therefore, this book is a foundational and pioneering work in the "social history of art" approach. It is not only unprecedented, but also possibly unprecedented. The original perspective, the breadth and depth of a general history covering five thousand years, the calm and objective polemic style, and the clear and clear language style are all admirable.
