一座城市如何成形？都市的建築配置與空間改變如何影響生活或旅行於其中的人？都市人的情感、意識、性別、族裔、職業、乃至活動地區、社會行為與消費模式，和其所居住的都市有何關聯？交流越來越頻繁的國際大都會，各自有何特色或性格，彼此又有何共通之處？而影像作為重要的文化生產形式之一，又如何呼應或建構城市的生活與文化？從文字、繪畫、攝影到電影，各種不同媒介所呈現的城市風貌，又有何異同處？本課程從社會科學與文化研究的取向，考察都市空間與社會文化的關係，同時藉由參考並分析影像來幫助我們認識紐約、巴黎、洛杉磯、東京、香港與台北等當代國際型都市的獨特面貌，更進一步探討影像生產與城市文化相互參照與彼此建構的密切關聯。
本課程期望以活潑、富批判意識的方式，以性別、地景、圖像與(動態)影像等主題，選讀相關參考書籍，探討都市這個微型社會的空間政治與文化論述等議題。本課程也透過各種動靜態影像的賞析，探討影像生產與城市空間的認知與體驗之間的辯證關係，並藉以培養人文關懷與反思。How does a city take shape? How does the city's architectural configuration and space change affect people who live in life or travel? The emotions, consciousness, gender, ethnic, occupation, and even activity areas, social behavior and consumption models of urban people are related to the cities they live in? What are the more frequent international metropolis, what are their special colors or personality, and what are the common parts of each other? As one of the important forms of cultural production, how can it echo or build the life and culture of the city? From text, painting, photography to movies, what are the differences in the urban style presented by different media? From the orientation of social science and cultural research, this course examines the relationship between urban space and social culture. , Further explore the close relationship between image production and urban culture with each other.
This course is expected to select relevant reference books in a lively and critical way to read the relevant reference books in gender, landscape, image and (dynamic) images, and explore topics such as space politics and cultural expositions of a micro society in the city. This course also explores the dialectical relationship between image production and urban space through various dynamic images, and to cultivate human care and reflection.
