從二十世紀初期的現代主義雕塑開始,到70年代的西方現代主義藝術流派的發展作為此課程的結構主軸。歐洲二十世紀前半葉複雜、混亂的政治及社會狀態,相對應的呼應現代藝術的叛逆特質以及追求對「新的忠誠」的理論根據。藉由課程的編排了解現代藝術對探求藝術可能性的熱切渴望,從而建立起學生對現代主義藝術發展的基本概念,了解諸如「現成物」以及「材質通俗化」等現代藝術時期即萌生的重要概念及手法,並作為理解在70年代之後的當代藝術往多方位發展的先導思路。From the beginning of modernist sculptures in the early 20th century, to the development of Western modernist art genres in the 1970s as the structural axis of this course.
