資訊社會學近幾年來成為備受關注的主題，因為再也沒有任何領域可以自外於資訊的影響。資訊做為電腦運算的最基本單元，目前為止社會學還沒有認真對待這個具有豐富生產力的概念。藉由資訊，電腦可以不斷地自我再生產出運算的素材，然後累積成我們所熟悉的「大數據」；或是資訊可以不斷地激發起人際之間的溝通，只要有源源不絕的資訊產生，溝通就不會停止。不同於以往資訊社會學大多談及網路空間中的使用者以及人際關係，這堂課從「資訊」這個最基本的單元談起，或許從另外一個角度出發，我們可以理解，為什麼資訊影響我們是如此深遠。

The sociology of information has become a topic that has attracted much attention in recent years, because no field is independent of the influence of information. Information is the most basic unit of computer calculations. So far, sociology has not taken this productive concept seriously. Through information, computers can continuously reproduce themselves to produce calculation materials, and then accumulate them into the "big data" we are familiar with; or information can continuously stimulate communication between people. As long as there is an endless stream of information, communication will not stop. Different from the previous information sociology that mostly talked about users and interpersonal relationships in cyberspace, this class starts from the most basic unit of "information". Perhaps from another perspective, we can understand why information affects us so profoundly.
