比較政治（comparative politics）是政治科學中重要的次領域之一，也是跨越多種學科的研究，例如社會學、法律學、經濟學等。因此，比較政治中的重要理論與關心的主題，很容易相互重疊，甚至彼此衝突。至今尚無宰制性理論（dominated theory）可以權稱代表比較政治的核心理論。比較政治的研究，依據性質與主題的不同，有兩種研究取向：一個是較為宏觀且抽象的比較政治、一個是較為微觀且具體的比較政府。比較政治則是依據主題，再從不同個案中建立中、高層次的理論。比較政府則是以區域或國家為對象，討論不同區域或國家的政治，尤其著重制度比較。本課程的內容據此分為兩大部分，分別介紹比較政治（第一學期）與比較政府（第二學期）。本課程將彙整幾個重要的主題，討論當代比較政治的重要議題，希望幫助同學對比較政治建立一個較為巨觀的視野。

第一學期主要的議題包括：比較政治的總體理論研究、方法論介紹、國家中心與社會中心理論、政治暴力、政治經濟、依賴理論、發展型國家模式比較、民主與威權、民主化…等。

第二學期則以比較政府為主，包括政治制度研究、比較憲政制度（總統制、議會制、半總統制等）、制度設計與民主、比較選舉制度、比較政黨體系、政黨與政府組成…等。

Comparative politics is one of the important subfields in political science, and it is also a research across multiple disciplines, such as sociology, law, economics, etc. Therefore, important theories and themes of concern in comparative politics can easily overlap or even conflict with each other. So far, there is no dominant theory that can claim to represent the core theory of comparative politics. The study of comparative politics has two research orientations depending on its nature and theme: one is relatively macroscopic and abstract comparative politics, and the other is relatively microscopic and specific comparative government. Comparative politics is based on the theme and then establishes medium and high-level theories from different cases. Comparative government focuses on regions or countries and discusses the politics of different regions or countries, with a particular emphasis on system comparison. The content of this course is divided into two parts, which introduce comparative politics (first semester) and comparative government (second semester) respectively. This course will bring together several important themes and discuss important issues in contemporary comparative politics, hoping to help students establish a broader perspective on comparative politics.

The main topics in the first semester include: overall theoretical research on comparative politics, introduction to methodology, state-centered and society-centered theories, political violence, political economy, dependence theory, comparison of developmental state models, democracy and authoritarianism, democratization, etc.

The second semester focuses on comparative government, including the study of political systems, comparative constitutional systems (presidential, parliamentary, semi-presidential, etc.), system design and democracy, comparative electoral systems, comparative party systems, political parties and government composition, etc.
