在環境科學的領域中會面臨相當多的數據處理的問題；除了一般研究領域常用的數據分析方法，其他包括污染物分析、生態調查、大氣及水文調查等的結果，面臨了如此多的數據時必須利用統計學的原理及技術將數據加以分類、分析及檢定該數據的義意。經由統計分析處理的結果可說明環境的現況併提供環境工作者決策的資訊。同時在環境評估或是環境政策中會面臨日漸重要的問卷調查工作，統計學將是不可缺少的技術。
There are quite a lot of data processing problems in the field of environmental science; in addition to the commonly used data analysis methods in general research areas, other results include pollutant analysis, ecological survey, gas and hydrological surveys, and when facing so many data, it is necessary to use the principles and techniques of statistical research to classify, analyze and determine the data. The results of the statistical analysis process can explain the environment's current situation and provide information on environmental workers' decisions. At the same time, major question-and-file surveys will be faced in environmental assessment or environmental policy, and scheming will be an indispensable technology.
