透過選讀重要西方哲學家：亞里士多德、霍布斯、笛卡爾、斯賓諾莎、洛克、萊布尼茲、休謨與自由概念有關之原著，了解西方自由哲學思想要旨。By reading important Western philosophers: Aristotle, Hobbes, Descartes, Spennosa, Locke, Leibniz, Hume, and freedom, to understand the purpose of Western freedom philosophy.
本課之目的在讓哲學系學士班同學在經過數年的哲學基礎訓練後，能在西洋哲學之專題上對所學的內容與方法作綜合的應用，即就哲學的一個專題來閱讀與思考，並寫成報告，可以為日後進一步的研究奠定基礎。西洋哲學的專題包括：（1）希臘哲學；（2）中世紀哲學；（3）英國經驗論；（4）歐陸理性論；（5）德國觀念論；（6）當代英美哲學；（7）當代歐陸哲學。授課教師可就任一專題設計課題程。
The purpose of this lesson allows the Bachelor Class of the Department of Philosophy after several years of philosophical basic training, and can comprehensively apply the content and methods learned in Western philosophy, that is, to read and think about the topic of philosophy And writing a report can lay the foundation for further research in the future. The topics of Western philosophy include: (1) Greek philosophy; (2) medieval philosophy; (3) British experience theory; (4) European rationalism; (5) German concept theory; (6) contemporary British and American philosophy; (7) Contemporary European Philosophy.
