本課程著重於奠定文化領域課程所需之基本知識，於學期前半會將媒體：諸如映像、文字等與視聽者的關連，探討其表象之符號性、政治性、文化意義，也會論及性別學、歷史、異文化交流等議題。學期後半會論及日本文化、歷史、哲學、思想等。This course focuses on the basic knowledge required for the establishment of the cultural field. 本課程與《語言溝通概論》《社會文化概論》並列，為本系必修基礎課程之一。這門課程主要目的在為學生建構文化研究相關基礎知識及基本概念，以培養學生對文化研究的理解，並提供學生一個機會去發現自己的興趣，進而具備選擇專門領域的判斷能力。
