孔子是中國文化傳統中，最具影響力的人物。而記錄孔子言行的《論語》，亦是古典時代知識份子必讀的經典。《論語》所彰示的義理，致廣大而盡精微，所述論的成德之路，極高明而道中庸。孔子與《論語》不只是儒家或中國的聖人與經典，亦是東方乃至世界的文化遺產。本課程將藉由介紹這位儒家宗師，並導讀《論語》這部古代經典，由是討論儒學的基本關懷、理論與文化精神。本課程的主要學習目標有二：一是修習本課程後，能對孔子之學的理論觀點與脈絡，有基本的認識，並思索儒學的特質與發展。二是能在研讀《論語》的基礎上，訓練古典文獻的閱讀能力，並從中整構思想家論點的能力，以作為深入理解古典文化的基礎。

Confucius is the most influential figure in Chinese cultural tradition. The Analects, which records the words and deeds of Confucius, is also a must-read classic for intellectuals in the classical era. The principles expressed in the Analects are both broad and subtle, and the path to virtue described in the Analects is extremely wise and moderate. Confucius and the Analects of Confucius are not only Confucian or Chinese saints and classics, but also cultural heritage of the East and the world. This course will introduce this Confucian master and introduce the ancient classic "The Analects of Confucius" to discuss the basic concerns, theories and cultural spirit of Confucianism. The main learning objectives of this course are twofold: First, after studying this course, you can have a basic understanding of the theoretical perspectives and context of Confucianism, and think about the characteristics and development of Confucianism. The second is to be able to train the reading ability of classical literature on the basis of studying the Analects of Confucius, and the ability to integrate the arguments of the thinkers, as a basis for in-depth understanding of classical culture.
