This course covers the period between late 19th-century and the 1920s, i.e., from late 19th century and the early stage of Modernism. Major reading and listening assignments come from our textbook, Burkholder/Grout/Palisca, A History of Western Music and the accompanying anthologies of scores. Such music resources as Grove Music Online and Naxos will supplement the CD recordings mentioned above. Additional sources such as optional readings and complementary course materials can be accessed on the course website via E-Learning.
