The core question of this academic year course is: "How to build a permanent local agricultural and food system?" Questions related to this include: How to define "local" and local needs? What will the agricultural and food systems that meet local needs appear? What difficulties need to be overcome? How to continue to operate? In the process of establishing a local food system, how can a university pay, exploit its influence, promote its connection with local communities, and fulfill its social responsibility?
To answer these questions, this course will be different from the general traditional university courses in content design and execution. Considering that students must first have basic knowledge and master the basic skills of social science research, and the time students need to work on experience research, I designed and planned a series of courses for one year and second-party courses to teach and learn in a more abundant, complete and rigorous way. However, considering the actual coursework situation of students, although the content of the courses during the whole and second periods is different, with the design and assistance of the individual course unit that can be learned, students who only join the courses in the next period can fully understand the core concept of the course. You may wish to learn later. The learning focus of both courses includes understanding the essence of local agriculture and food systems, the relationship between agricultural systems and modern society, and how to establish a food system that is permanent and meets local needs. The difference is that in order to facilitate students' learning and practice operations, the courses in the first session take the ecological farm located at Donghai School as an example, and try to connect this farm with the surrounding communities to develop into a main point in an on-site food system; the courses in the second session will be expanded from point to surface, and try to think about how to plan and establish a larger-scale on-site food system.
