This course is to introduce ancient Greek history, c. 1500-31BC. In this period the achievement in politics, philosophy, literature, science, art and culture, has great impact on the western civilization. The course will basically follow chronological order, to illustrate important political, social and cultural issues, as well as contact with foreign cultures and their influence. It will cover the bronze age, dark age, archaic period, classical period and Hellenistic period. Topics will include polis, colonization, tyranny, democracy, and political bodies such as Athens, Sparta and Macedonia. The course will also show how Greek history was established, and will introduce primary requirement for the research. It will consist of lectures, supplemented with power-point presentations. There will be discussions and quizzes on a regular basis.
