Upon the completion of the course, students are expected to
1. know the role of a translator,
2. analyze the features of Chinese classic fiction and vernacular short stories, English language fiction, etc.
3. solve the problems of interpretation, back translation, local dialects and offensive language used in translation etc.The course is to help students build up basic ability in analyzing Chinese or English works and their corresponding translated versions. All this practice through classroom discussion works toward the most important issues in the field of translation: what makes a good translation?
