本課程旨在通過《西遊記》一書之多方檢討，使學者能夠清楚明白中國古典小說名著之某些成書特性及存在其中不足之原因；並透過內容與情節分析，使學者明白該書之語言文字上的若干特性，及創作者在人物形象塑造之得失，並得以藉此所建立之視野去閱讀其他小說名著This course aims to enable students to clearly understand some of the characteristics of Chinese classical novels and their shortcomings through the multi-faceted review of the book "Western Travel Notes". Through the analysis of content and circumstances, students can understand the characteristics of the language and characters of the book, as well as the gains and losses of the creator in shaping the characters, and can use the vision established in this way to read other novel masterpieces
課程講授以誘導及啟發為主，學者須於課前閱讀指定及相關之文獻資料，以彼此互動之雙軌並進方式進行，期能達到對西遊記故事之形成與成書過程，有更為充分完整之理解，並以此為鑑去閱讀其他之中國小說。
The course lectures are mainly taught and initiated. Students must read designated and related documentary materials before the course, and conduct them in a dual and interactive way, hoping to achieve a more complete understanding of the formation and writing process of Western travel stories, and use this as a prerequisite to read other Chinese novels.
