本課程旨在通過《西遊記》一書之多方檢討，使學者能夠清楚明白中國古典小說名著之某些成書特性及存在其中不足之原因；並透過內容與情節分析，使學者明白該書之語言文字上的若干特性，及創作者在人物形象塑造之得失，並得以藉此所建立之視野去閱讀其他小說名著

This course aims to enable scholars to clearly understand some of the characteristics of Chinese classical novels and the reasons for their shortcomings through a multi-faceted review of the book "Journey to the West"; and through content and plot analysis, to enable scholars to understand some of the characteristics of the book's language and characters, as well as the creator's gains and losses in character creation, and to use the perspective established by this to read other masterpieces of novels

課程講授以誘導及啟發為主，學者須於課前閱讀指定及相關之文獻資料，以彼此互動之雙軌並進方式進行，期能達到對西遊記故事之形成與成書過程，有更為充分完整之理解，並以此為鑑去閱讀其他之中國小說。

The course teaching is mainly based on induction and inspiration. Scholars are required to read designated and relevant literature materials before class, and proceed in a dual-track manner of interaction with each other. It is expected to achieve a more complete understanding of the formation and writing process of the Journey to the West story, and use this as a reference to read other Chinese novels.
