在過去，當人意識到自己存在的限制，或是因為這些限制而感到焦慮、恐懼、痛苦等等負面情感時，往往使盡全力，希望得以超越這些限制，進入一種無限的狀態或世界，讓人們更有勇氣、也更加從容瀟灑地面對有限存在所帶來的困難；但是在今天，藉由資訊科技與文化產業的大幅發展，電視、網路、動漫...創造了一個龐大的虛擬空間，我們不須歷經層層磨練與苦思，就能輕易躍入近乎無限的世界之中。這是多了不起的成就啊！但我們似乎也因此受困在這無限之中，當我們愈是浸淫其中，我們反而愈發難以忍受/應付真實人生的種種限制或困難。
本課程將聚焦由網路（包括遊戲、社群軟體、youtube等）、動漫、電影/電視...等等所謂文化產業所構築的＂虛擬世界＂。我們將跨領域地結合哲學、社會學、心理學與文學等等觀點或論述，並且加入數次分組討論，反省並思考1）這個虛擬世界的魅力究竟為何，何以能令人樂此不疲，以至於得以不斷地擴張或衍生出相關的活動，例如收藏公仔、cosplay等；2）這個看似充滿無限的虛擬世界，它的限制究竟為何，它可能造成的負面影響又為何。3）則討論我們能否既從虛擬世界中得到樂趣，但又可以不受其負面影響。
In the past, when people realized their own limitations, or felt anxious, fear, pain and other negative emotions due to these limitations, they often tried their best to surpass these limitations and enter an infinite state or world, so that people would be more courageous and more inclusive. The ground has the difficulties brought by finite existence; but today, through the significant development of information technology and cultural industries, television, network, animation... has created a large virtual space. We can easily enter the nearly infinite world without experiencing training and thinking. This is such an amazing achievement! But we seem to be trapped in this infinity because of this. As we become more immersed in it, it becomes more and more difficult for us to endure/to deal with the limitations or difficulties of real life.
This course will focus on the "virtual world" structured by the cultural industries such as the Internet (including games, community software, youtube, etc.), animation, movies/tv... etc. We will combine the views or commentary of philosophy, society, psychology, literature and other fields across regions, and add several discussions to reflect and think about 1) What is the charm of this virtual world and how can it make people happy, so that it can continuously expand or derive related activities, such as collecting dolls, cosplay, etc.; 2) What is the limitation of this seemingly endless virtual world, and what is its possible negative impact. 3) Discuss whether we can get fun from the virtual world, but not be affected by its negative aspects.
