Justice in Science, Technology and Society

教育目標 Course Target

本課程希望能於帶領學生了解在合宜的制度的表象下所可能因為商業利益、科技競爭、政治訴求、私人因素等所衍生的不正義現象。透過藥商利益與AIDS疫情、跨國人體試驗、集體盲從暴力、司法冤案等不同類型國際與國內議題的介紹與討論,讓同學建立思辨分析的能力,而非盲從於制度表象,進而強化對於相對弱勢族群的關懷態度。本課程嘗試分別從科技發展、運用,以及社會制度與現象中分別探討正義的價值與落實困境。
期中考前的課程聚焦於社會制度與正義,從漢那、鄂蘭「平凡的邪惡」觀點出發探討與分析不正義的集體社會現象。進而思索當制度進入軌道、並穩定運轉之後,可能因為人為因素或制度盲點而引發的個案式不正義現象,如冤獄等。透過比較個案式受害者與集體社會暴力下的受害者的本質差異性,探討設置制度維持社會整體正義之際,所可能衍生出的對少數族權利益的犧牲,與應有的關懷。
期中考後的課程側重在與科技發展、運用以及疾病等議題中的分配正義與社會價值偏差所引發的不正義,涵蓋的議題包括藥品研發與專利制度、人體試驗的利益分配、跨國的生物資源剽竊等攸關如何分配利益才符合分配正義本質的議題,並延伸到解構與反省某些因成見而歧視某些疾病、患者或族群的不正義現象。

This course hopes to lead students to understand the injustice that may arise from business interests, technological competition, political demands, private factors, etc. under the appearance of a proper system. Through the introduction and discussion of different types of international and domestic issues such as the interests of pharmaceutical companies and the AIDS epidemic, transnational human trials, collective violence, and judicial injustices, students can build their ability to think and analyze instead of blindly following the appearance of the system, thereby strengthening their caring attitude towards relatively disadvantaged groups. This course attempts to explore the value and implementation difficulties of justice from the development and application of science and technology, as well as social systems and phenomena.
The course before the mid-term exam focuses on social systems and justice, exploring and analyzing unjust collective social phenomena from the perspective of "ordinary evil" of Hanna and Oran. Then think about the individual injustices that may be caused by human factors or blind spots in the system, such as unjust imprisonment, after the system is on track and operates stably. By comparing the essential differences between individual victims and victims of collective social violence, we explore the possible sacrifices and due care for the interests of minority groups when setting up systems to maintain overall social justice.
The course after the mid-term exam focuses on the injustice caused by distributive justice and social value deviations in issues related to the development, application and disease of science and technology. Topics covered include drug research and development and patent systems, profit distribution in human trials, transnational plagiarism of biological resources and other issues related to how to distribute benefits in line with the nature of distributive justice. It also extends to the deconstruction and reflection of certain injustices that discriminate against certain diseases, patients or ethnic groups due to stereotypes.
