過去十年,全球在現代設計與工業化生產達到了一個頂峰,設計文化共通性、工業化的標準與品質、更大的市場產生的規模效益,讓我們能夠享受到世界化的高品質生活,然而當「全球化」(globalization),成為一種趨勢,這種追求時興,追求奢華、高級、時尚,但屬於我們自己的文化與設計系統,卻仍然沒有建立 。無論在建築業 室內設計界,在過去十年,各種義大利風格、北歐風格、工業風格風行草偃,但我們卻不了解這些風格與設計跟我們的日常生活有什麼樣的關係 ,台灣成為歐美、日本、 全球化產品的市場 ,然而這一切,卻沒有培養當代設計師從自己的文化根源去創造,或是去實踐自己的理想。
另一方面,隨著大眾生活的極劇的都市化,我們都了解人類的許多活動有害大自然,工業化設計產品/建築及是最大的問題根源。追求美好生活的憧憬以及永續環境與設計,這兩者的衝突,是當代設計者必須面對的問題,永續設計與環境保護並不是一個選項,而是今日身為一個在台灣,建築與空間設計師必須在設計之初就必須納入考慮的問題。
當然、許多的原因可以歸納為台灣的工藝與設計歷史相當短,長久以來,我們相當容易接受外來的文化或是品牌,去消費來自義大利、北歐、日本的設計,然而對於台灣自己的原創的傢俱/工藝文化,不甚了解,因此台灣的設計目前某種程度上還是緊跟著西方潮流,也導致了許多拼貼或是超襲的設計產品。
然而透過了解台灣的都市文化與大眾生活,其實我們可以發現,我們的生活文化仍然保持著非常強烈的個性。然而設計文化必須靠時間累積 ,必須從過去的努力與失敗中, 慢慢的一點一滴累積。
作為一個熱愛設計與生活的設計者在這個多樣設計的時代,在追尋一個平衡點,在空間的造型與歷史之中, 一方面追尋合理的效能的設計創意,一方面追求求融合設計與自然健康的環境,以要求精準(Ecology and Technology),以及絕對的高品質, 不只是注重大方向的趨勢,同時關注每一個微小的細節。
我所看見的台灣未來設計,是想要追求的是不同於過去單純追求新的、 炫麗的設計。而是以獨到的眼光輕鬆、具有人文氣息當代台灣設計。
全球化的設計文化,有其時代的意義與價值,但全球化的思考與設計的訓練,必須融入因地制宜的設計,尤其是建築、室內設計不同於工業設計、平面設計。建築、建築與室內設計是高度客製化的,是為在地業主所建造的,當代台灣的設計界與設計師,不能只是把所有的國外的資訊與設計,沒有選擇的一蓋接收,在轉化成作品。
我相信設計美學的概念其實已經在一般人的生活中慢慢成型,也願意消費的起好的設計,今日台灣的設計產業,必須走出追隨全球化大量工業化生產的迷思,走出台灣自己的經典道路,也希望一般的民眾能夠願意消費了解台灣設計師的實力,在了解世界設計文化的同時,購買台灣自己的設計產品,共同創造這個屬於自已時代的經典,這也是這門課的最終目的。
In the past decade, the world has reached a peak in modern design and industrial production. Designing cultural commonality, industrial standards and quality, and the scale benefits generated by a larger market allow us to enjoy a world-wide high-quality life. However, when "globalization" has become a trend, this pursuit of time, luxury, high-end and fashion, but our own culture and design system has not been established. Whether in the construction and interior design industry, in the past decade, various Italian styles, Nordic styles and industrial styles have been on the go, but we don’t know what these styles have to do with design and our daily life. Taiwan has become a market for European, American, Japanese, and globalized products. However, all of this has not been cultivated by contemporary designers to create from their own cultural roots or realize their ideals.
On the other hand, with the extreme urbanization of the public's life, we all understand that many human activities are harmful to nature, and industrial design products/buildings are the biggest root cause. The longing for a better life and the conflict between the two is a problem that contemporary designers must face. Continuous design and environmental protection are not an option, but today, as a problem in Taiwan, architecture and space designers must be considered at the beginning of the design.
Of course, many reasons can be considered as Taiwan's art and design history are quite short. For a long time, we have been quite prone to accepting foreign cultures or brands to consume designs from Italy, Northern Europe and Japan. However, we do not know much about Taiwan's own original furniture/craft culture. Therefore, Taiwan's design is still closely following the Western trend to a certain extent, which has also led to many pastel or super design products.
However, by understanding Taiwan’s urban culture and public life, we can actually find that our living culture still maintains a very strong personality. However, design culture must be accumulated over time, and it must be accumulated over time and gradually from past efforts and failures.
As a designer who loves design and life in this era of multiple designs, in pursuit of a balance point, in the shape and history of space, on the one hand, pursues a design creativity with reasonable effectiveness, and on the other hand, pursues a fusion of design and natural and healthy environment, so as to require precision and precision (Ecology and Technology) and absolute high quality, not only pay attention to the trend of major directions, but also pay attention to every tiny detail.
What I see in Taiwan's future design is to pursue different from the simple pursuit of new and dazzling designs in the past. Instead, it is relaxed with a unique perspective and has a humanistic atmosphere and contemporary Taiwanese design.
The globalized design culture has its own meaning and value, but the thinking and design training of globalization must be integrated into designs that are adapted to local conditions, especially architectural and interior designs are different from industrial design and graphic design. Architecture, architecture and interior design are highly customized and are built for local owners. The contemporary Taiwanese designers cannot just accept all foreign information and designs without a single choice to convert them into works.
I believe that the concept of design aesthetics has actually taken shape in the lives of ordinary people, and I am willing to make good designs for consumption. Today, Taiwan's design industry must step out of the myth of pursuing a large number of industrial productions in globalization and walk out of Taiwan's own classics. I also hope that ordinary people can be willing to spend money to understand the strength of Taiwanese designers. While understanding the world's design culture, they can buy Taiwan's own design products and jointly create this classic of their own era. This is also the ultimate goal of this course.
