This course is designed to enhance the power of rhetoric in both Chinese and English. Effective persuasive strategies in both languages will be introduced and practiced, highlighting the linguistic as well as cultural differences in these two languages. Interpretative and translational skill will be covered so as to appropriately domesticate the source language into its target language (or to foreignize it if needs be). After completion, students’ presentation skills will be enhanced in both content (methods of structuring argument) and performance (pronunciation, eye contacts etc.).
