Taiwan Under the Japanese Colonial Rule
教育目標 Course Target
本課程是以日本殖民時期的短篇小說創作為主要文本，據此想像日據時期台灣島嶼上人們的社會、文化狀態，與精神面貌。透過文學，我們得以更具體更及人地理解殖民主義「治理」的暴力與荒謬，以及，所加諸於台人的各種明顯的與隱藏的創傷。雖然並不企圖直接討論這段歷史時期與今日的關係，但這門課所引領出來的必然是對台灣今日的戀殖狀態提出反思與批評的某些基礎。
This course uses short stories written during the Japanese colonial period as the main text, and uses them to imagine the social, cultural status, and spiritual outlook of the people on the Taiwan island during the Japanese occupation. Through literature, we can understand more concretely and more humanly the violence and absurdity of colonial "governance," as well as the various obvious and hidden traumas it inflicted on Taiwanese people. Although it is not intended to directly discuss the relationship between this historical period and today, what this course will lead to must be some basis for reflection and criticism on Taiwan’s colonial-loving state today.
