台灣新紀錄片的出現，大約從1980年代中葉開始，通常追溯到王智章拍攝的海山礦災紀錄片及其後來所發起的「綠色小組」。歷史的因緣際會，由於VHS家用攝影機新工具的出現，創造了新的生產空間和表達模式，開啟了戰後台灣「人民媒體」的歷史新頁，綠色小組以「小眾媒體」的姿態，首次站在人民位置，反抗戒嚴體制支配下的主流媒體所發出的一元化、單向式的國家意識形態機器之政令宣導、收編、與進行對被統治者的馴服、洗腦、與臣屬化。
本課程的目的以歷史社會學的視野，重新系統地回溯台灣新紀錄片的興起，探討1980年代綠色小組在解嚴前後所記錄的騷動島嶼之反抗影像，配合影像佐以「台灣狂飆」的八十年代之歷史旁白，重新進行歷史脈絡化與深入詮釋。
「綠色小組」之後，1990至2000年將以「全景學派」作為討論對象，2000年之後個人化、藝術化與商業化的紀錄片興起且逐漸蔚為風潮，可與綠色小組的反抗美學構成參照與比較。析理三十年來的發展，台灣的紀錄片是否形成特有的傳統，有哪些特色和侷限之處，以及共同求索未來紀錄片作為社會實踐之可能。

The emergence of new documentaries in Taiwan began around the mid-1980s, and is usually traced back to Wang Zhizhang's documentary on the Haishan Mining Disaster and the "Green Team" he later launched. Historically, due to the emergence of the new tool of VHS home video cameras, new production spaces and modes of expression were created, opening a new page in the history of "people's media" in post-war Taiwan. The Green Group, as a "niche media", stood in the position of the people for the first time and resisted the unified and one-way national ideological machine issued by the mainstream media under the control of the martial law system.
The purpose of this course is to re-systematically review the rise of Taiwan's new documentary from the perspective of historical sociology, and explore the images of the turbulent island's resistance recorded by the Green Group in the 1980s before and after the lifting of martial law. The images are accompanied by historical narration of the "Taiwan Cyclone" in the 1980s to re-contextualize and in-depth interpret the history.
After the "Green Group", the "Panorama School" will be discussed from 1990 to 2000. After 2000, personal, artistic and commercial documentaries emerged and gradually became a trend, which can be used as a reference and comparison with the rebellious aesthetics of the Green Group. Analyze the development in the past thirty years, whether Taiwan's documentary has formed a unique tradition, what are its characteristics and limitations, and jointly explore the possibility of future documentary as a social practice.
