本課程所指涉的【公共史學】，主要特指：與歷史文物保存有關的歷史相關從業人員（Practicing historians） 在檔案管理單位、博物館圖書館、政府機關、民間文史工作或其他歷史文物保存機構等等，或擔任顧問、口述歷史工作者、或網路上文史資訊(crowdsourcing)提供者角色需要的相關基本技能。本課程主要聚焦在四個領域：檔案(archive)、博物館(museum)、口述歷史（oral history）、及影像圖像展示(visual display)。關於【公共史學】的理論架構，可參看：Thomas Cauvin, Public History: A Textbook of Practice（NY: Routledge, 2016）The [public history] referred to in this course mainly refers to the basic skills required by Practicing historians in file management units, museum books, government agencies, civilian literature and history work or other historical relics preservation institutions, etc., or to be a consultant, or oral history work, or a crowdsourcing provider, online.
