本課程所指涉的【公共史學】，主要特指：與歷史文物保存有關的歷史相關從業人員（Practicing historians） 在檔案管理單位、博物館圖書館、政府機關、民間文史工作或其他歷史文物保存機構等等，或擔任顧問、口述歷史工作者、或網路上文史資訊(crowdsourcing)提供者角色需要的相關基本技能。本課程主要聚焦在四個領域：檔案(archive)、博物館(museum)、口述歷史（oral history）、及影像圖像展示(visual display)。關於【公共史學】的理論架構，可參看：Thomas Cauvin, Public History: A Textbook of Practice（NY: Routledge, 2016）

The [public history] referred to in this course mainly refers to the relevant basic skills required by historical practitioners (Practicing historians) related to the preservation of historical cultural relics in archives management units, museums and libraries, government agencies, folk cultural and historical work or other historical cultural relic preservation institutions, etc., or as consultants, oral history workers, or online cultural history information (crowdsourcing) providers.
