本課程之目的主要在使學生認識佛教中基本的學術及理論部份，做為將來繼續研究佛學的基礎。本課程的另一目標則在於利用佛教在人生修養及解脫煩惱方面的作為薰陶學生，使其生命內容能有向善的發展方向。學生通過此課程時後所培養的能力：
學生通過此課程之後，能培養出對佛教與佛學的基本認識，可以去除一般人對佛教的許多誤解。並具備與其他宗教比較的基本能力。

The main purpose of this course is to enable students to understand the basic academic and theoretical aspects of Buddhism as a basis for continuing to study Buddhism in the future. Another goal of this course is to use Buddhism's role in life cultivation and relief from troubles to educate students so that their lives can develop in a good direction. Competencies developed by students after passing this course:
After students pass this course, they can develop a basic understanding of Buddhism and Buddhist studies, and can eliminate many misunderstandings about Buddhism that ordinary people have. And have the basic ability to compare with other religions.
